According to child experts, children absorb through the socialisation process both a view of the world and their place in it.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHTS
With 5-8 year old children from Asian, White English and West Indian racial groups
The children were given a selection of dolls representing various dolls and were asked"which doll looks most like you?"
24% of Asian children and 45% of the West Indian children said they looked like the white doll.

Each child was then given one from their ethnic group and one white doll, they were asked, " If you could be like one of these dolls, which one would you rather be?"
65% of the Asian children and 82% of the West Indian children chose the white doll.
All the white children identified and chose the white doll.

WHY SASA NOW?

Evidence based on surveys from parents, practitioners and other professionals reveal a 'cradle to grave' cycle of PREJUDICE resulting in irreparable damage and sometimes tragic effects on everyone.
Our focus is Tackling of Prejudice Positively (TOPP)

Early years are a very important time in children’s lives. It is in their early years that children begin to establish and develop their self-image.
It is therefore essential that all children are able to see people like themselves, their families, background, religion, cultures, skin colour and communities represented positively in their surroundings and play and learning materials. (WGARCR)
